Part One: Unusual Transmissions from the Pyramid / Salvaged Debris.
In the 90's I was lucky enough to be included on some great Tribute CD's to Genesis, King Crimson and VanderGraffGenerator (all of whom are among my biggest influences) and so, just to keep myself amused, I thought I would do some more. The following versions of these cover songs were recorded in 2001 before I had a "proper studio environment". Utilizing a Korg workstation, Acoustic & Electric Guitars and Vocals the tracks were sent analog in to the computer via a small format Mackie mixer into the 1/8 inch input jack. These versions were never intended for release but upon reviewing and re-mastering these tracks I thought it would be fun to share some of them with you. I think they have a great deal of love in them. So without any further ado, here they are. Cheers.

While we are spending some time in tribute land, it would only make sense to include some of the officially released tracks from the 90's on Magna Carta , Cleopatra, Purple Pyramid and Mellow Records. Their efforts in keeping progressive music alive and kicking against all common sense is an inspiration. "Thank You" is what tributes are really all about. I believe that the CDs these songs came from are all out of print. So here they all are in one place for your enjoyment.

The 2005 Celtic Demo Sessions MP3 files
In 2005 I had the notion to send some music to the Celtic Music Festival here in Nevada County in an effort to perhaps reach a wider audience. By this time the dream of my own recording studio was nearly a reality and I was extremely motivated to record a demo for the festival. Being a fan of Jethro Tull and Richard Thompson I set out to record some of their material as well as some new original and "traditional" celtic flavored songs. The resulting batch of material yielded a few as of yet unreleased gems. All instruments and vocals by Jay Tausig with Shelby Snow on Bass.
Never did get the gig though.
Here are some of the results.
1. Rin Gill written by Ian Anderson 2:32
2.Outside of the Inside written by Richard Thompson 5:44
3. Matty Groves - Traditional 4:28
4. Living in the Past written by Ian Anderson 3:07
Live On KVMR FM 2005 Jay Tausig w/ D'arcana MP3 files
These are probably the BEST live recordings of D'arcana that exist. Live on the air.
So a bit of history perhaps is in order..
We recorded and released independantly 2 CDs (D'arcana , As Worlds They Rise & Fall) and a 2 CD set (Premonitions) of which I was the principle song- writer. This was accomplished in 4 years. That's 1 per year. Not too shabby. The reviews were overwhelmingly positive. Never had a permanent drummer though.
Many gave it an excellent go. But there weren't enough gigs to keep us playing and it never seemed to stick. We did some amazing shows and festivals anyway. Some well attended, some not. But D'arcana always proved to be an extremely powerful group of musicians, both live and in the studio. James and Shelby deserve all the praise in the world for staying with the project for as long as they did. Their contributions to the band and the songs were remarkable... World class stuff.
The group currently does not exist , but I still play alot of the songs live. The material endures. So here for your continued enjoyment, is a LIVE recording of D'arcana originally broadcast on KVMR FM which I lovingly and carefully mixed on the fly in the studio using a Mackie Onyx board and sent the feed to their system. This is as live as it gets.
Jay Tausig : Acoustic & Electric Guitar, (+ Synths, Sax, flute on Nick's Jam)
Shelby Snow : Bass
James Camblin : Lead Guitar:

2. Changes written by Jay Tausig - 11:01
3. Rain written by Jay Tausig - 5:48
4. Nick's Jam improvised by D'arcana - 16:51
Recorded at the first D'arcana CD release party. This was one of the pre-recorded parts of the broadcast and still remains as one of the most important parts of my musical memory. Nick played percussion on this SMOKING space rock / jazz extravaganza in front of a truly great crowd!! Live, as it was, untouched.
He is no longer with us and was taken away too soon.
R.I.P. Nick Snow
5. Balance written by Jay Tausig 3:41

Part Two: Experiments with Sound
Fast Forward to the present...
I tend to go off on tangents every so often to try out some unknown territory.
This is one of those tangents. I really enjoy listening to jazz sometimes, but I rarely get a chance to play it. The following MP3's were recorded in my studio on Aug 5-7 2009 with the intention of creating some truly free jazz that sounded spontaneous and fresh. Taking lots of risks. I am a firm believer in "First Takes" and all of the
music is just that.
Jay Tausig: Drums, Piano, Sax, Bass, Acoustic & Electric guitar.
This was created for my own enjoyment and not intended for any "official" release.
But it turned out to be a good ride, thought you might like to come along..
1. Sunswept 5:16
2. Floating Worlds 9:33
3. Science Friction 9:49
4. Becalmed 4:51

These next 4 songs comprise "Swarm". This CD will only be available here as a free download! If you like space-rock (Gong, Can, Hawkwind), check it out.
